The Extron Annotator 300 is a high performance, hardware-based annotation processor that allows a presenter to draw, point, or type over live presentations using a touch display, graphics tablet, or a keyboard and mouse. The HDCP-compliant Annotator 300 includes HDMI and DisplayPort inputs, a universal analog video input, and three simultaneous outputs including two HDMI and a DTP^® twisted pair output. It also features advanced Extron video signal processing with a high performance scaling engine and fast, reliable switching. The DTP twisted pair output extends HDMI and bidirectional control signals to a DTP receiver over a shielded CATx cable up to 330 feet (100 meters). The Annotator 300 offers a wide range of annotation tools and controls, all easily accessible by the presenter using an intuitive on-screen GUI.

Create Real-Time Annotations with a User-Friendly Interface

User-friendly graphical icons and menus provide quick access to essential annotation tools for drawing freehand or lines, adding rectangular or elliptical shapes, typing text, highlighting an area of the presentation, and pointing to objects on-screen, with various customization tools. A presenter can also isolate a specific area of the presentation for emphasis by creating a spotlight with the image darkened around it. Additional annotation options include the ability to use a touch flat-panel display as a whiteboard, zoom and pan within the image, and freeze a live image. Annotated images may be captured and saved to internal memory, a removable USB flash drive, or a network location. These images can also be printed using a network printer.

Compatible with Popular Touch Displays and Graphics Tablets

Annotating over live video or presentations is easy using common touch displays, graphics tablets, as well as any standard keyboard and mouse. A total of 25 devices can be connected via USB hubs. The Annotator 300 is ideal for collaboration applications requiring simultaneous on-screen annotation from two users.

High Performance Video Processing

The Annotator 300 features an advanced scaling engine that can scale HDMI, DisplayPort, RGB, component, and standard definition video signals to a common high resolution output. It provides high performance deinterlacing of all interlaced signals up to 1080i, and Deep Color processing to deliver optimal image quality. The universal analog video input automatically detects incoming RGB, component video, S-video, or composite video. Automatic 3:2 and 2:2 pulldown detection maximizes image quality for content sources originating from film. The Annotator 300 accepts signals up to 1920x1200 and 2K, plus DisplayPort input signals at resolutions up to 2560x1600. The output can be set for various resolutions up to 1920x1200, including 1080p/60 and 2K.

The Annotator 300 provides three simultaneous outputs – two HDMI and one DTP that enable three displays to be driven simultaneously. Selectable FILL and FOLLOW modes are available to set the preferred aspect ratio of the output. FILL mode provides full screen output, while FOLLOW mode preserves the original aspect ratio of the input signal.

Built for Digital Video Integration

To simplify integration of HDMI sources and displays, and to help ensure optimal system performance and dependability, the Annotator 300 features three Extron-exclusive technologies: EDID Minder^®, Key Minder^®, and SpeedSwitch^®. EDID Minder manages EDID communication between the display device and input sources to ensure that the correct video formats are displayed reliably. For HDMI signals with protected content, Key Minder authenticates and maintains continuous HDCP encryption between input and output devices to ensure quick and reliable switching. With SpeedSwitch Technology, the Annotator 300 delivers exceptional, virtually instantaneous switching speeds for HDCP-encrypted content.

Integrated Digital Twisted Pair Extension

The Annotator 300 includes one DTP twisted pair output. This output can be used to extend HDMI, analog audio, and bidirectional control signals to a DTP 230 or DTP 330 receiver in a remote location, such as behind a flat-panel display on a wall or above a ceiling-mounted projector. DTP 230 and DTP 330 receivers are available in compact, low-profile enclosures or decorator-style wallplate versions to suit the installation requirements of a specific application. The Annotator 300 can also be integrated into a larger AV switching system with a DTP-enabled switcher or matrix switcher, such as the Extron IN1608 or DTP CrossPoint 84.

When the Annotator 300 is paired with a DTP 330 receiver, HDMI, analog audio, and control signals can be extended up to 330 feet (100 meters) over a single shielded CATx cable. With a DTP 230 receiver, signals can be extended up to 230 feet (70 meters).

The DTP twisted pair output includes additional convenient, integrator-friendly features designed to help simplify installation. Bidirectional RS-232 and IR signals can be inserted from a control system and transmitted over the single shielded CATx cable together with the video, enabling control of a display. The Annotator 300 can also send power to the DTP receiver over the same shielded CATx cable, streamlining system design and installation.

HDBaseT-Compatible Output

The DTP output can be configured for compatibility with an HDBaseT-enabled display to send digital video and embedded audio, plus bidirectional RS-232 and IR signals up to 330 feet (100 meters) over a shielded CATx cable.

Configurable Main and Confidence Outputs

The outputs of the Annotator 300 can be configured as separate Main and Confidence outputs, with the ability to selectively control visibility of the annotations and on-screen menus. One of the three outputs can be used as a dedicated Confidence output for the presenter, while the remaining two serve as Main outputs for the audience. The Confidence output can be configured so that only the presenter can view the annotation GUI. The presenter can also use the Confidence output to preview annotations before making them live through the Main outputs for the audience.

Multiple Options for Control and Operation

The Annotator 300 features front panel controls for quick access to functions. Remote configuration and control are available via USB, RS-232, and Ethernet, plus contact closure to control input switching. The Annotator 300 can be configured using Extron's PCS - Product Configuration Software with a user-friendly GUI that is very easy to navigate. This allows for expedited setup and commissioning, as well as real-time operation and monitoring. The Annotator 300 can also be monitored using the integrated Web interface. Housed in a 1U, full rack width metal enclosure, the Annotator 300 can be easily integrated into many environments.

Supports 25 total device connections and simultaneous annotation for two users — The Annotator 300 allows up to a total of 25 pointing device connections via USB hubs. It is ideal for collaboration applications requiring simultaneous on-screen annotation from two users.

Capture and store images to a USB flash drive, internal memory, or a network location, plus the ability to recall annotated images — An image can be captured as a snapshot of the live video output, including annotations, and saved to internal memory, a removable USB flash drive, or a network location for archiving.

Print captured images using a network printer — The Annotator 300 supports connection to a printer on the network, enabling captured images to be sent directly to the printer without connecting to a PC.

Configurable Main and Confidence outputs — The outputs can be configured as separate Main and Confidence outputs with individually controlled visibility of annotation and OSD graphics.

HDCP compliant — Ensures display of content-protected media and interoperability with other HDCP-compliant devices.

User-selectable HDCP authorization — Allows individual inputs to appear HDCP compliant or non-HDCP compliant to the connected source, which is beneficial if the source automatically encrypts all content when connected to an HDCP-compliant device. Protected material is not passed in non-HDCP mode.

Extron XTP DTP 24 shielded twisted pair cable is strongly recommended for optimal performance

Compatible with CATx shielded twisted pair cable — The Annotator 300 fully supports a maximum transmission distance of 330 feet (100 meters) for all compatible resolutions when used with CATx shielded twisted pair cable. Shielded twisted pair cabling with solid center conductor sizes of 24 AWG or better is recommended for optimal performance.

Bidirectional RS-232 and IR pass-through for AV device control — Bidirectional RS-232 control and IR signals can be transmitted alongside the video signal over the DTP connection, allowing the remote device to be controlled without the need for additional cabling. Bidirectional control extension eliminates the need for control system wiring to remote devices.

Remote powering of DTP receiver — The Annotator 300 can provide remote power to a DTP receiver over the twisted pair connection, eliminating the need for a separate power supply at the remote unit.

Compatible with all DTP 230 and DTP 330 Series receivers, and DTP-enabled products — Enables mixing and matching with desktop and wallplate receivers, as well as other DTP-enabled products to meet application requirements.

DTP output is compatible with HDBaseT-enabled devices — The DTP output can be configured to send video and embedded audio, plus bidirectional RS-232 and IR signals to an HDBaseT-enabled display.

Auto-switching between inputs — Auto-switching allows for simple, unmanaged installation in locations such as in a lectern or under a conference table. When multiple inputs are active, the switching priority is configurable.

Auto Input Format Detection — For the universal analog video input, the Annotator 300 detects the incoming signal format, automatically reconfiguring itself to provide the appropriate decoding and signal processing. This feature can reduce the number of required outputs for a matrix switcher, lowering system cost while improving manageability.

Selectable output rates from 640x480 to 1920x1200, including 1080p/60 and 2K — Available output rates include computer and video up to 1920x1200, including 1080p/60 and 2K.

Advanced scaling engine with 30-bit precision processing and motion-adaptive deinterlacing for signals up to 1080i — Image scaling and video format conversion are performed at 30-bit precision for enhanced color accuracy and picture detail. Advanced deinterlacing for all interlaced signals up to 1080i delivers optimized image quality.

Key Minder^® continuously verifies HDCP compliance for quick, reliable switching — Key Minder authenticates and maintains continuous HDCP encryption between input and output devices to ensure quick and reliable switching in professional AV environments, while enabling simultaneous distribution of a single source signal to one or more displays.

EDID Minder^® automatically manages EDID communication between connected devices — EDID Minder ensures that all sources power up properly and reliably output content for display.

SpeedSwitch^® Technology provides exceptional switching speed for HDCP-encrypted content

Aspect ratio control — The aspect ratio of the video output can be controlled by selecting a FILL mode, which provides a full screen output, or a FOLLOW mode, which preserves the original aspect ratio of the input signal.

HDCP authentication and signal presence confirmation — Provides real-time verification of HDCP status for each digital video input and output. This allows for easy signal and HDCP verification through RS-232, USB, or Ethernet, providing valuable feedback to a system operator or helpdesk support staff.

HDCP Visual Confirmation — When HDCP‑encrypted content is transmitted to a non‑HDCP compliant display, a full‑screen green signal is sent to the display for immediate visual confirmation that protected content cannot be viewed on that display.

HDMI to DVI Interface Format Correction — Automatically enables or disables embedded audio and InfoFrames, and sets the correct color space for proper connection to HDMI and DVI displays.

Selectable seamless switching transitions — Seamless cut through black, and fade through black transition effects are available at the scaled video outputs.

Auto-Image setup — When activated, the unit automatically optimizes the image by analyzing and adjusting to the video input signal. This can save time and effort in setting up a newly connected source, particularly in presentation environments where different guest presenter laptops with various output resolutions will be connected.

Auto Input Memory — When activated, the unit automatically stores size, position, and picture settings based on the incoming signal. When the same signal is detected again, these image settings are automatically recalled from memory.

Output Standby Mode — The unit can be set to automatically mute video and sync output to the display device when no active input signal is detected. This allows the projector or flat-panel display to automatically enter into standby mode to save energy and enhance lamp or panel life.

Power Save Mode — The unit can be placed in a low power standby state to conserve energy when not in use.

AFL™ - Accu-RATE Frame Lock — A patented technology exclusive to Extron that locks the output frame rate to a designated input to eliminate stuttering caused by frame rate conversion.

NOTE

Protocol is mirrored between the connected DTP 330 endpoint and the “Over DTP” port on Annotator 300. Signals from a control device pass into the Annotator 300 “Over DTP” port, is embedded with the DTP signal, and sent to individual DTP 330 Rx endpoint for control of a remote sink device.
The “Over DTP” port is simply a pass-through connection to a DTP endpoint. There is no RS-232 or IR insertion from any Annotator 300 control port to the “Over DTP” port.
