The Extron PowerCage FOX 3G HD-SDI Fiber Optic Extender is a modular board-designed transceiver for the PowerCage® 1600, and enables long haul transmission of 3G-SDI, HD-SDI, and SDI video, with embedded audio and metadata, over a single fiber. Engineered for reliability and exceptional high resolution image performance, it uses Extron all-digital technology to transmit signals up to 2.97 Gbps. To optimize SDI signal transmission to and from the PowerCage FOX 3G HD-SDI, input signals are automatically equalized, and output signals are reclocked. The PowerCage FOX 3G HD-SDI can function as a transmitter and a receiver in various user-configurable modes.

The double-slot board design of the PowerCage FOX 3G HD-SDI allows for as many as eight transceivers to be populated in the PowerCage 1600 enclosure, reducing installation time and simplifying power management. The PowerCage FOX 3G HD-SDI transceiver is hot-swappable, allowing for board replacement in the field at any time without having to power down the system.

The PowerCage FOX 3G HD-SDI is part of the extensive FOX Series of fiber optic products from Extron and is compatible with the FOX 3G HD-SDI and FOX 3G DVC. It can be used for simple point-to-point applications or in combination with FOX Series distribution amplifiers and matrix switchers to handle the most challenging AV system designs, from a simple conference room to an enterprise-wide fiber optic distribution system.

The PowerCage FOX 3G HD-SDI is designed for long distance transmission of high resolution content with the highest quality. Because transmission of content is inherently secure and immune to outside interference, fiber applications are favored in government, military, and medical environments. The PowerCage FOX 3G HD-SDI board features industry standard LC-type connectivity.

The PowerCage FOX 3G HD-SDI MM board supports multimode fiber at 850 nm, which is typically used within buildings or facilities with moderate-range transmission distances up to 2 km (1.25 miles). The PowerCage FOX 3G HD-SDI SM board supports singlemode as well as multimode fiber at 1310 nm. Singlemode fiber offers long-range transmission capability over extreme distances of up to 30 km (18.75 miles). It is used in very large facilities such as airports and stadiums, and for connecting over very long distances between facilities such as university campuses.

The PowerCage boards automatically recognizes and transmits 3G-SDI, HD-SDI, and SDI signals, and is compliant with SMPTE 259M, 292M, 424M, and ITU digital video standards. Because the PowerCage FOX 3G HD-SDI board is a transceiver, signals can be simultaneously transmitted and received between a pair of PowerCage FOX 3G HD-SDI boards or between a PowerCage FOX 3G HD-SDI board and a FOX 3G HD-SDI unit. It is also configurable as a dedicated transmitter with outputs for previewing on a local monitor, and as a dedicated receiver with the capability to daisy-chain multiple PowerCage FOX 3G HD-SDI boards within the PowerCage 1600. The board can also be daisy-chained with FOX 3G HD-SDI units or receiver boards in other PowerCage 1600 units to support applications with displays in multiple locations.
