The Extron VN-Matrix 325
Model Version Description Part #
 VNC 325 3G-SDI Codec for 3G-SDI 60-1249-01

The VN‑Matrix® 325 streams 3G‑SDI, HD‑SDI, or SDI video and embedded audio over IP networks to meet the emerging need for low delay, production quality transport of SD and HD video over enterprise networks. The VN‑Matrix 325 codec uses Extron's PURE3® codec which exceeds many of the performance characteristics of standards-based compression formats, delivering visually lossless imagery with low latency, and a high immunity against network errors. The VN‑Matrix 325 codec is switchable between encode and decode functionality and video decoding can be genlocked to an external SDI reference. VN‑Matrix 325 is ideal for quality-critical applications such as live video delivery across a campus, production collaboration, studio-to-studio media exchange, and original video source contribution.

PURE3 Codec

The Extron PURE3 codec applied in VN‑Matrix 325 streams audio and video across networks with very low latency, visually lossless image quality, 4:2:2 color sampling, and 10-bit color depth, maintaining original source quality. The codec can be used in real time, interactive, or collaborative applications where bi-directional communication or remote video device control would be hampered by delay. Low delay streaming can also reduce the total production and delivery time for audio and video, making it an attractive solution in many applications. PURE3 error concealment is highly immune to network errors, preserving quality even under conditions of heavy packet loss, without the typical need for additional delay or bandwidth seen with error correction technologies. PURE3 error concealment can also eliminate the need for expensive high QoS managed network services. The performance delivered by PURE3 allows VN‑Matrix 325 to be operated on a variety of network connections.

True High Definition Quality

The PURE3 codec in the VN‑Matrix 325 codec can deliver visually lossless image quality. It is ideal for applications that test and evaluate quality such as remote color grading. It can also be used to contribute real-time content into live video productions.

Extensive Bit Rate Management

The processing speed, capacity, compression and bit rate management offered by the PURE3 codec make VN‑Matrix 325 flexible for use in a wide range of applications. The demanding quality requirements of production and broadcast applications will be well served using very high bit rates, while presentation, collaboration, and monitoring applications may use moderate to low bit rates. The variety of quality and bit rate controls available in VN‑Matrix systems make them capable of fulfilling unique applications that are not served well by encoders designed for specific, mainstream applications.

Embedded Audio

The VN‑Matrix 325 supports streaming of embedded audio transparently passing four channels of lossless, synchronized audio per ancillary - ANC data block. Up to four ANC data blocks can be streamed with video carrying 16 audio channels. Alternatively, two channels of audio can be streamed alone in stereo mode delivering mono, stereo, or 5.1 surround sound in applications requiring use of lower bandwidth. Video can also be streamed without audio.

Synchronized Decoding

The VN‑Matrix 325 also supports genlocked decoding of audio and video streams across multiple decoders even when network errors are experienced. This is valuable for preserving synchronization across multiple camera feeds and video sources in production environments.

Network Flexibility

With network error concealment, the VN‑Matrix 325 does not require a dedicated network connection, managed QoS, or error correction to ensure reliable video quality. It supports both Unicast and Multicast transport protocols.
