Anaheim, California (December 16, 2003) – Extron Electronics recently opened a Technology Classroom at its Anaheim headquarters to demonstrate different levels of AV systems for educational environments. "The goal of this addition is to provide real-world applications of the AV technology that is available for educational facilities," explains Jim Clements, Extron's Director of Education and Training. With this addition of over 1,000 square feet, the technologically advanced Extron S³ Institute now boasts more than 6,000 square feet, including two classrooms, a computer-based training room, two videoconference rooms, and a fully equipped theater.

"We realize that the K-12 market, in general, does not have the supporting AV personnel that universities and colleges have, so the AV equipment installed in this room is focused on educational K-12 applications and budgets," says Tim Schnabel, Extron's Educational Program Manager. The primary products showcased in the Technology Classroom are the Extron MediaLink® System, System 5 IP Switcher, and the System 7SC Switcher — all controlled by Extron's latest Ethernet control interface technology, IP Link®. IP Link is a high performance intelligent network solution specifically engineered to meet the needs of professional AV environments. Multiple Ethernet-enabled AV products can be managed and supported by a single technician or administrator at any time from any computer with a Web browser. "Extron's Technology Classroom enables K-12 administrators to actually experience different levels of room controls, projection, and audio systems in a setting that is consistent with their typical learning environment, instead of just reading about it on a specification sheet," says Schnabel. Corporate donations have enabled Extron to include a wide array of AV equipment in the new Technology Classroom. Sponsoring companies include Sharp, Mitsubishi, Polyvision, Middle Atlantic, Draper, QSC, and SoundTube.
