Anaheim, California (March 23, 2021) - Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine – ICOM, located in Meridian, Idaho, is the state’s first medical school. LightWerks Communication Systems worked closely with ICOM to design and deploy appropriate AV systems for each type of room in the three-story, 94,000 square foot facility. The design team specified Extron signal processing, distribution and control products. Campus rooms include powerful yet efficient DTP presentation systems, which have proven to be eminently reliable and easy to operate. Class sessions are enhanced and captured for live distribution and archival purposes using a selection of Extron annotation, audio, bridging, and streaming/recording products. System control is intuitive and also supports remote management. The engineering quality, flexibility, and compatibility designed into each Extron product enabled the AV systems to be installed and commissioned within the tight three-month deadline.

“Becoming a physician is a complex process that is mentally, physically, and emotionally challenging,” says Brian Atkinson, Director of Information Technology at ICOM. “ICOM is designed to help each student achieve a solid understanding of osteopathic diagnostics and techniques, and the Extron technologies used throughout the campus are instrumental in this endeavor.”

The installation includes classroom, lab, lecture hall, and meeting room designs. Learning spaces incorporate an Extron DTP CrossPoint 4K Series presentation matrix switcher that provides seamless video scaling and signal routing. For remote sources, DTP transmitters and receivers extend AV and control signals up to 330 feet (100 meters) between the endpoints and the matrix switcher. The lectern holds an Annotator 300 processor, a MediaPort 200 HDMI and Audio to USB Scaling Bridge, and an SMP 351 streaming media processor. Combined, they enable image annotation, bridging, streaming, and scaling capabilities that are powerful yet user-friendly. Extron Pro Series control products within each room provide intuitive system operation. When the divisible lecture halls are configured into an auditorium, an Extron XTP II CrossPoint 3200 modular matrix switcher ties the DTP systems into one comprehensive system. The XTP system is operated from the control room using a TLP Pro 1720TG 17" Tabletop TouchLink Pro Touchpanel.
